The Build
This 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 4×4 was purchased new in November 2019 and converted from a bare cargo shell by its owner over the following five years. It is being sold because the owner is relocating overseas and will no longer be able to use it regularly.
Detailed records were kept throughout the build, and the owner is available to answer questions about the build process and the design decisions behind it at whatever level of detail a buyer wants. Several critical portions of the work were completed by professionals, including the cabin heaters, the alternator tie-in, the shore-power system, and the roof-mounted solar installation. The buyer receives documentation and receipts for the van’s components, including installer information where relevant.
The owner has worked remotely for more than twenty years, and the van was specified around that from the outset rather than having it added afterward — a Pepwave 5G router with a roof-mounted external antenna rather than a phone hotspot, 110V outlets on a dedicated workstation circuit, a Lagun swivel work table, and enough battery capacity to run a laptop and monitor through a full working day off-grid.
Power & electrical — live off-grid indefinitely
The heart of the build. 300Ah of Battle Born LiFePO₄ lithium feeds a full Victron system — a 2,000W MultiPlus inverter/charger, SmartSolar MPPT, Orion-Tr DC-DC alternator charger, Lynx distribution, and a BMV-712 monitor — replenished by a 400W LG solar panel, alternator charging on the road, and shore power at any campground. The van runs both 12V DC and full 110V household AC throughout: plug in a laptop, microwave, or power tools exactly as you would at home. The control panel is professionally laid out and fully labeled, with a proper house-battery disconnect for storage and a 200A alternator-charging cutoff. Blue Sea Systems 12V sockets and dual-USB chargers throughout.
Heating, climate & insulation — a true four-season rig
Two independent diesel heaters — an Espar (Eberspächer) Airtronic as primary cabin heat plus an Autoterm Air 2D serving the garage and water systems — provide real freeze protection and redundancy. Combined with heavy Thinsulate and Reflectix insulation, Hushmat sound deadening, and a floor insulated underneath with 1″ polyiso foam, the van has been proven through multiple sub-freezing winters, including sub-zero nights in Tahoe and Mammoth. Paired with the factory 4×4 and dedicated winter tires, it is a legitimately strong cold-weather, snow-country vehicle.
Galley & water
Built for real cooking: a solid butcher-block counter, a stainless Isotherm fridge/freezer, a microwave, a portable induction cooktop, a deep stainless sink, and soft-close Blum drawers. Water is a 20-gallon fresh tank with two-stage filtration and a quiet variable-speed pump; grey water goes to a 5-gallon tank under the sink. The toilet is a clean, simple Nature’s Head composting unit — no black tank, no dump-station hassle. An exterior quick-connect spray/wash system lets you rinse off after a ride, hose down gear, or take a quick outdoor shower.
Living space & sleep
A warm, intentional palette — hand-finished wood, signature blue cabinetry that ties to the exterior, off-white walls, and a natural tatami sleeping platform — makes the space feel like a home away from home. Overhead cabinets run the length of the driver’s side; all lighting is matched puck lights on three dimmable zones. A convertible workstation does triple duty as seating, a 360° swivel work table, and a discreet toilet enclosure. The bed is a Japanese tatami platform topped with a natural-latex mattress, chosen for breathability and mold resistance.
Garage & gear-hauling
The rear garage is a purpose-built gear system: 80/20 aluminum pods housing the electrical and water systems, plus a heavy-duty locking full-width slide-out tray and RockyMounts fork mounts that swallow two bikes, tool storage, and bins with room to spare — the part of the van a cyclist or skier falls for.
Connectivity, audio & security
A Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5G router with a roof-mounted Parsec K9 external antenna delivers genuine work-from-anywhere internet. The audio system is upgraded with Maestro component speakers, a Pioneer DEQ-S1000A amp/DSP, and an Alpine powered subwoofer. A hardwired Firstech/Compustar alarm and remote-start system with an LTE + GPS module lets you track the van from anywhere in the world and lock or unlock it from your phone.
Exterior & overland equipment
Outfitted for the backcountry: Owl Vans aluminum side steps and a rear ladder + tire carrier, Terrawagen Mondo Mudguards for oversized tire clearance, Black Rhino Yellowstone wheels on Bridgestone Blizzak LT 265/70R17 winter tires, and a brand-new full-size matched spare mounted on the rear, never rotated into service and secured with a combination lock. MaxxAir MaxxFan Deluxe roof vent, Rosen multi-axis sun visors from Owl Vans, and magnetic Maxtrax mounts (boards not included). Note this is a high-roof model — plan on roughly ten feet overall with the roof fan open.
Turnkey — what’s included
Sold move-in ready, outfitted with galley gear, dishes and flatware, bedding for the sleep platform, drawer organization, fill hoses and shore-power cords, leveling blocks, and an ARB Weekender recovery kit. Also included and mounted in the garage: a RIDGID Pro Gear drawer tool chest on a fixed mounting plate (no tools included), a heavy-duty set of jumper cables, and a 12V emergency kit with a tire inflator. The full set of Strawfoot Handmade insulated magnetic window covers plus the matching roof fan cover is included as well — roughly $1,400 new and hard to source quickly.
Not included: bikes, SUPs, camping gear, or any other outdoor gear shown.
Condition & history
A 2019 with genuinely low miles (31,200), a clean and lien-free title, and a single owner. It has never been in an accident and has had no body work. CARFAX confirms no open recalls, and the van has a documented maintenance history including all dealer recall work. It was purchased and owned near San Luis Obispo, California for most of its life, and driven to Michigan late last year — a 2,500-mile cross-country trip completed without issue. In August 2026 the van was professionally detailed and paint-corrected, with the exterior trim cleaned and sealed.
The van is priced at $87,900 and is located near Holly, Michigan, about an hour northwest of Detroit. Inspections and test drives are welcome.
