This is not a production camper van, nor is it a typical DIY conversion. It was built over several years with one goal in mind: create a dependable, efficient, four-season camper using premium materials and components that will last for decades.

Every major decision—from the insulation system to the electrical architecture to corrosion prevention—was made with long-term reliability rather than minimum cost in mind. The result is a comfortable, off-grid capable camper that has been meticulously maintained since the day it was purchased.

With approximately 52,000 miles, this van has been cared for to a standard rarely seen. Every trip ended with a thorough cleaning, including the undercarriage. The engine has a documented history of oil analysis reports, WeatherTech floor mats have protected the cab since new, and a Covercraft windshield shade has been used to preserve the dashboard and interior.

Built Around Three Design PrinciplesThermal Efficiency

This van was designed for four-season use in the Rocky Mountains.

Rather than relying on inexpensive insulation materials, each area of the van was insulated using the material best suited for that application.

1. 1″ XPS foam board beneath the subfloor for both insulation and compression resistance
2. ½” plywood subfloor
3. Residential-grade composite flooring throughout—including beneath the fixed bed
4. Foam it Green closed-cell spray foam insulation on the walls and ceiling
5. Havelock Wool insulation in the doors and irregular cavities where serviceability was important

Heating is provided by one of the industry’s most respected propane furnaces:

1. Propex HS2800 (9,500 BTU) with digital thermostat
2. Thermostat conveniently located next to the bed
3. Professionally serviced by Propex North America (July 2026)

Electrical Efficiency

The electrical system was designed around efficiency, durability, and safety.

Instead of inexpensive components, the system uses premium marine-grade products throughout.

1. Two Battle Born 100Ah LiFePO₄ batteries (200Ah total)
2. Battle Born warranty through May 11, 2029
3. 320 watts of rooftop solar (2 × 160W panels)
4. Victron and Blue Sea Systems electrical components
5. Marine-grade oversized pure copper wiring
6. Adhesive-lined heat-shrink sealed electrical connections
7. Blue Sea fuse panels, bus bars, breakers, and distribution

Everything in the living space runs on efficient 12-volt power to maximize battery life while minimizing electrical losses.

Built to Resist Water & Corrosion

Many camper vans begin deteriorating where you can’t see it.

Special attention was paid to protecting this van from moisture intrusion and corrosion.

Throughout the build:

1. Every sheet metal cut was painted
2. Rubber gaskets protect wiring passing through sheet metal
3. Penetrations were sealed internally and externally
4. Moisture-resistant insulation materials were selected
5. Stainless steel hardware was used throughout wherever practical

These details are largely invisible—but they matter tremendously for long-term durability.

Why I’m Selling

My wife and I bought a house which needs our time and we are entering the ‘professional’ phase of our lives. In fact, we haven’t taken Walden (the name for the van) out for more than a year.

There are many camper vans on the market, but very few that have been built and maintained with this level of attention to detail. This van was never intended to be flipped or sold shortly after completion. It was built as a long-term adventure vehicle using premium components, careful craftsmanship, and an emphasis on reliability over shortcuts.
