We’ve traveled around the country for the past 3 years in our self-built Promaster, Tim Gunn. He’s been all over the US multiple times, but mostly stuck to the coasts and around the Rocky Mountains in CO. We both work remote but need internet and love going to breweries, so we mostly set up shop in cool cities to hang for a month or two and then drive a few hundred miles to the next city to set up shop so most of those miles are highway miles between work destinations.
Inside we have a kitchen with a 4.6 cu ft fridge from Truckerfridge, a propane gas stove top (we use the green bottles, stored under our sink), a 14″x14″ sink with a gooseneck faucet, and cabinets above for storage.
Right as you enter, we have a shoe storage rack built into the side of our L-shaped couch that backs up to a partition between the cab and living area that can be closed off with a barndoor. The long side of the couch can be pulled out for extra depth if you want to have a visitor stay with you, adn below the seating are two deep drawers for storage. The shorter side of the L-shape that runs along the driver side of the van has a hidden chest-style opening under the seat cushion for more storage as well as a safe that can fit mulitple laptops, cameras, valuables, etc; the safe is bolted through the floor so it can’t be removed.
A lagun table separates the couch from an additional booth seat that backs up to the bed. There are two mounts for the lagun table so that it can either be placed between the two seats or mounted to the side of the kitchen counter. Between the seats are also the vents for the diesel heater. This thing cranks out heat and can get the van from the 40s back up to the 70s in about 10 min, it’s a beast and a huge help in the cold months. Under the single seat is another pull out storage drawer that houses our dometic cassette toilet and some cleaning supplies.
The bed is fixed at about 3.5′ off the floor, with more than enough room to be able to sit up comfortably in bed without feeling too close to the ceiling. The Airmaxx fan is above the bed to help keep you cool in the warm months or just keep air moving when you want that. There are puck lights above the bed as well as a hidden LED strip light at the foot of the bed that is our go to for lighting at night; also, there are moveable, magnetic LED sconces that can be moved and attached to any metal surfaces in the van (so handy!). USB A & C outlets are installed on both sides of the bed for charging anything you need at night. At the foot of the bed, running the whole length of the driver’s side of the van, are mulitple storage cabinets with gas struts to keep them open and magnetic closures to keep them from opening while you drive.
Under the bed is the electrical system on one side (foot of the bed) and a huge amount of bin storage on the passenger side. Two bright LED light strips illuminate the entire garage so it’s easy to find anything you need. On the back side of the electrical and bin storage area, we have another large storage area with wall anchors to strap down anything you might want to store upright under the bed. We’re able to fit 2 inflatable SUPs and three large roller dakine duffel bags in this area with no problems at all. On the back doors you’ll find three more built-in storage space that are accessible from the bed when the doors are closed and are super handy.
Not listed in the VanTrader form are a couple useful electrical items that are more useful than the solar and that would be our Renogy 40A DC-DC charger and a 15A shore power charger. The DC-DC might be the most useful when you hit a run of cloudy days and need a recharge, drive for about an hour and you’ve just gotten about a full day’s worth of power. The shore power is always handy when boondocking or staying with friends for some quick trickle power. We’ve got a 100′ 15A extension cord that comes with the van so you can use that when you need the extra distance.
USB outlets are installed all throughout the van and there are two outlets connected to the inverter for when you need to charge a laptop or other larger power draw than the 5A USBs.
Lastly, up top we have the 300W of solar and a deck made of 1x6s that’s great to just hang out and chill on when you’re out in some open space!
