If you’ve been looking for an AWD high-roof extended Transit that’s already camp-ready right now (water + sink + hot water + fridge + stove + solar + power + ventilation), but still leaves you room to finish and personalize a build without paying $150k, this is it.
I built this van to actually live in — and I did. It handled a 4-month trip through the Mountain West into Canada comfortably. It’s dialed for skiing, river trips, desert missions, rainy shoulder seasons, and winter travel with dogs.
Why this van is special:
- AWD + EcoBoost + 10-speed: best winter handling I’ve ever had (and I’ve owned several AWD vehicles). It just sits down and grips. The 10 gears are also awesome for dialing in steep descents in the mountains.
- High Roof + Extended length = real standing room + real storage + real livability.
- Off-grid capable: 300W solar + a full power system + DC appliances.
- Adventure “garage”: fits long skis, 2 mountain bikes, and even a rolled raft with paddles.

- I’ve used bungees for securing certain items in transit — easy upgrades if you want a more finished locking/door system.

- Custom welded roof rack, bolted into the Transit roof
- Great as-is for cargo, and could be upgraded into: a roof deck (wood slats), additional solar capacity (especially for winter living)
Condition + transparency (read this!):
This is a high-quality, functional DIY build, not a “showroom” professional conversion — and the price reflects that. I want a straightforward sale where the buyer knows exactly what they’re getting.
Known issues / unfinished items:
- Windshield is heavily cracked / spiderwebbed (see photos). In Colorado windshields crack constantly — I factored replacement into the price.
- Auxiliary heater (Webasto) is installed but currently not operational because the fuel pickup/line size is incorrect (needs the correct size run). Important: the factory cabin heater works great and blasts heat. The added heater is meant to sip fuel and keep the van warm overnight or while parked.
- Interior finish is partially completed: ceiling is painted, cabinets are not fully painted, some cabinet doors are a bit crooked (see photos)
What IS solid / not an issue:
- No accidents
- No warning lights
- Drives great
- Build is functional and camp-ready today
Maintenance / ownership:
- 1 owner (I bought it new)
- Clean title
Regular maintenance always kept up
- Recent oil change
-Brand NEW tires
Who this is perfect for:
- A DIY builder who wants a massive head start: camp tomorrow, refine over time.
- Someone who wants AWD + real winter confidence for mountain towns and ski trips.
- Outdoor people: rafting, biking, climbing, desert trips, storm-season travel — and it’s excellent with pets.
Professional builds can easily run $150k+. This is a rare opportunity to get the best base platform (AWD high roof extended Transit) plus a functioning systems setup (power/water/kitchen/ventilation) without starting from scratch.
