This van was owner‑built and iteratively refined over more than two years of real‑world travel. It was designed intentionally for four‑season use, extended off‑grid stays, and gear‑heavy adventures rather than occasional weekend camping.
It has been driven and lived in across the western United States and Canada in all seasons, including spring in Sedona, summers in Canada, fall in the Tetons, and dozens of winter trips to Ikon and Epic ski resorts. Every system has been tested, adjusted, and improved through actual use.
I am starting a new chapter that no longer involves van travel, and I am looking to pass this rig on to someone who will continue to use it for exploration and adventure.

Power, Solar, and Electrical
The electrical system was designed to support extended off‑grid use with multiple charging sources and sufficient capacity for daily living loads.
- Hybrid power system consisting of:
- Two 100Ah lithium house batteries
- Goal Zero Yeti 3000X portable power station
- Combined system provides redundancy and flexibility for off-grid use
- 600W rooftop solar array (6 x 100W panels)
- Custom solar rack built from angle aluminum and 80/20 extruded aluminum
- Charging via solar, vehicle alternator, or shore power
- Inverter capability via the Goal Zero system supporting standard 120V outlets
Primary 12V loads include the refrigerator/freezer, interior lighting, and rooftop air conditioning.
Climate Control and Ventilation
Cooling is handled by a Velit 2000R DC rooftop air conditioner. It operates directly on DC power, is energy‑efficient, and is designed specifically for off‑grid use without requiring a generator.
Ventilation includes a MaxxAir roof fan and operable windows near the bed, allowing comfortable cross‑ventilation. The fan helps maintain consistent airflow through the sleeping area even when parked.
Heating is provided by an Espar gasoline heater (2kW) tied into the vehicle fuel tank. It has been reliable at high elevations, including winter camping at approximately 11,000 feet in Colorado.
Interior Construction and Insulation
The interior emphasizes durability, modularity, and weight efficiency.
- Cabinet framing and shelving built from extruded aluminum
- Lightweight wood panel finishes
- Cedar‑pine ceiling
- All cabinetry bolted directly into the vehicle structure
Insulation consists of Havelock wool throughout, with supplemental rigid foam panels in larger flat sections.
