2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2WD

Here is a purposefully built, Off-Grid, All-Season Camper Rig on a Mercedes Sprinter platform. Highlights include a 400Ah lithium battery bank meant to charge quickly in a few different ways: a couple of Victron chargers while traveling, a 400W industrial grade rooftop solar panel when stationary in the backcountry, and a shore power charging system when hookup is available.

This build is meant to keep you warm during the coldest days and nights, featuring an efficient hydronic system that will keep the very nicely insulated living space toasty from the wet and cold for a long time. It holds enough water (40 gal.) to keep you off the grid for several days, on a fresh water tank that can be dispensed hot or cold from the galley or the outdoor shower out in the back.

The good: This thing is packed with high end features that make it a very capable and comfortable vehicle for back country adventures. High ground clearance, chunky tires and aftermarket suspension, and recovery equipment make it suitable for forest roads and dispersed camping. The gasoline engine is exempt from the complexities associated with diesel emission systems: it’s a lot simpler and cheaper to maintain, without mentioning the anxiety of finding fueling options out there. Even with all the add-ons it gets a respectable 14 MPG combined. The van has been meticulously taken care of with records of all the maintenance done by specialized sprinter shops. 

The bad: this is not an awd sprinter, it’s a rear wheel drive. This is not a high-roof body, it’s a standard. It will allow a 5’4” person to stand up normally. These two combined help with better mileage while reducing asking price. If this sounds like a dealbreaker to you then look somewhere else. If you are not planning on crawling rocks or getting deep in the snow, this might be just right for you.
