History:
We are Lady May’s second owners. We purchased Lady May in March 2022 and the build out was completed in November 2022. The build out was professionally done by Carefree Camper Company, based out of Wickenburg AZ. Lady May has been maintained by Ford Dealerships.
With Lady May prepped, we hit the road full time at the end of 2022. We travelled full time and adventured with our two dogs (a golden retriever and aussie/yellow lab mix). We started out in Virginia (our home) and went to the bottom of Key West, up to the tip of Maine, out to San Deigo, California (and everywhere in between) – even dipped into Canada for a bit.
Our set up was ideal for two adults (6’5” male and 5’5” female) and two pups. Lady May is fully equipped for remote work – I spent the entire year working my 9-5 from the van.
We are sad to say goodbye to life on the road but are ready for our next adventure of growing our family!
Living Space:
Lady May has more than enough storage space for anything you’d want to bring with you for life on the road. The driver side has a closet (37 ½” x 10” x 27 ¼”) and pull-out pantry (37 ½” x 10” x 22”), leaving space for the Nature’s Head Composting Toilet underneath. Next to the pantry and closet, there is a 35” x 23 ½” bench. This was the remote workspace, which included a Lagun Mount butcher’s block table (22 ¼” x 15”) and mount for your monitor (dual screens for more productivity!) The Lagun mount swivels in all directions and I could adjust my workspace to a standing desk when I wanted. Under the bench, you’ll find the 12v Iceco dual zone fridge.
The passenger seat swivels around, opening the living space even more. You can use the flip up table (22 ½” x 16 ½”) attached to the kitchen area as a desk for the swivel passenger seat as well.
Perfectly placed in the middle of the living space and bedroom area, there is a 14X14 Maxxair fan to provide optimal air flow.
Kitchen:
We love to eat and we cooked a lot in the van. We also love to stock up on our favorites at Costco and we had every bit of space needed! — something we couldn’t sacrifice while living on the road. We maximized the utility of the kitchen in our build. Cooking on the road was enjoyable, and we never felt limited with tons of storage in the pull-out pantry and the lower and overhead cabinets.

Bedroom:
The bed is 8 inch thick memory foam mattress is just shy of a full king sized bed (80” x 67”). There are passenger and driver side slider windows that open near your head, providing great views and a cool breeze.
The bed converts into a U-shaped Bench area with a Lagun Mount butcher’s block table (57” x 22 ¼”). Enough room for 4-6 to eat, play games, or hang out around.
Bathroom:
A Nature’s Head composting toilet is tucked away under the pull-out pantry and closet. When needed, just open the door and slide it out.
Garage Space:
Lady May has all the amenities for life on the road, but also, does not skimp on storage space. The driver side garage contains electrical, generator, inverter, and LCD display. The passenger side garage houses the plumbing system and the heating system. The rear garage holds the 40 gallons fresh water tank. All three are easily accessible.
Water System:
Lady May is equipped with a water system capable of allowing two humans and two dogs to live off-grid for over a week. Water is plumbed to the kitchen faucet and the outdoor shower. All our drinking water was filtered through a separate filtration system filled by the kitchen faucet.

Electrical System:
Our set up rarely left us lacking the necessary juice. In addition to the 12v appliances in the van, our daily charging needs include a laptop, two phones, and mobile hotspot. On occasion, we cooked with an air fryer or rice cooker and charged our speaker, kindle, apple watch, fitbit, and headphones.
All of the electrical components of this build are powered by two Interstate Batteries – Nonspillable Deep Cycle sealed lead-acid AGM4D
Each AGM4D boasts 200 amp hours of electricity for a total of 400 amp hours. With 300 watts of solar on the roof, Lady May thrives in sunny environments, which is convenient because we often chased the sun and warm weather. In addition to solar charging, Lady May’s house batteries can also be charged while the vehicle is running through the DC battery charger.
On the driver’s side, Lady May also has a 30-amp shore power connection. Great for campgrounds or RV Parks.
Generator:
In addition to solar power and shore power, Lady May comes equipped with a Cummins Onan RV QG 4000 Generator that supplies power to four outlets and the rear air conditioner unit. The generator was regularly serviced and most recently done in July 2023.
Rear Air Conditioner:
Coleman Mach AC Unit – Off Grid capable and runs completely off the generator (also off grid). We loved chasing the sun and warm but that also meant some very hot days! The AC unit’s airflow is so strong and cooled the entire van down instantly. Such a game changer for warm weather adventuring!
Exterior:
Exterior van build components include three 100w solar panels at the back of the van and a roof top deck. We upgraded Lady May’s shoes during our build out in 2022. She went from commercial grade highway tires to oversized All Terrains. The impact on mpg and road noise was almost imperceptible and the benefits were huge; better handling, a more comfortable ride, better grip in mud, sand and snow.
