We’re selling our 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170 4×4, professionally built by Rossmönster and later upgraded by Colorado Adventure Vans. It has only 16,600 miles and has been an incredible adventure van for our family.
This is a true, driver-selectable 4×4 Sprinter- not the later AWD system Mercedes introduced for 2023. It has a full four-season build, four belted seating positions, a fixed rear bed, indoor shower, full kitchen, Rixen hydronic heat and hot water, 40 gallons of fresh water, A/C, solar, VanCompass suspension, Flarespace flares and extensive storage.
We’ve had some amazing times in this van- weekend camping trips, strategic camping for first ski runs before the crowds arrived, picnics and day trips, and several days at a time completely off-grid on BLM land. Even I-70 ski traffic became a lot less painful: we had everything we needed to simply pull over and wait it out comfortably.
It has given us a kind of freedom that’s hard to appreciate until you have it. We’d absolutely be keeping it if we could. We’re selling only because our family is moving overseas.
Built for Four – Without Giving Up the Living Space
In 2024, Colorado Adventure Vans professionally installed a Double Bellagio foldaway two-passenger seat in black UltraLeather with 3-point belts and child-restraint hooks. The seat folds away when you’re camping, opening the center of the van back up into a spacious living area.
The rear has a permanent bed for two adults, with garage storage underneath. For our two kids, we’ve used removable Cabbunk cab bunks (pictured) across the front. They accommodate children up to approximately 5’8″, have worked wonderfully for our family, and are included with the van. With the blackout shades throughout, the kids sleep later than they do at home.
The dinette area provides a comfortable place to eat, work or hang out inside the van, with upholstered seating, and additional storage underneath, and a Lagun-mounted birch butcher-block table. The table swivels easily out of the way and can be removed and stored above when not needed, leaving the area open.
A True Four-Season Van
Non-toxic wool insulation throughout provides excellent thermal insulation, moisture management and road-noise reduction. Custom Duramax Dark Grey upholstered wall and ceiling panels give the interior a quiet, finished feel.
Insulated/privacy window covers and a thermal privacy curtain separating the cab from the living area provide additional privacy and help isolate the living space in colder weather.
The Rixen hydronic system provides both cabin heat and on-demand hot water, with multiple heat-source options depending on how you’re using the van. You can run it from the diesel furnace while camping, use the electric heating element when connected to shore power, or take advantage of engine heat. It makes this a genuinely comfortable four-season van – we’ve used it throughout the year in Colorado rather than treating it as a summer-only camper.
For warmer weather, two MaxxAir roof fans with remotes provide excellent cross-ventilation. There is also a Dometic Penguin II roof A/C for use with shore power or a generator. In practice, we’ve rarely needed the A/C: with one MaxxAir pulling air in, the other exhausting it, and the windows open, airflow is excellent.
Full Kitchen + Indoor Shower
The kitchen includes:
- 4.6 cu. ft. Isotherm stainless DC refrigerator- surprisingly spacious; we’ve packed it for family trips and somehow never seem to fill it
- Furrion two-burner range/oven
- GE microwave in dedicated cabinet
- Large, deep stainless workstation sink
- Pull-down faucet
- Solid birch countertops
- Custom walnut cabinetry throughout
- Soft/slow-close drawers with minimalist stainless hardware
- Upper cabinets throughout and open shelving
Throughout the van, the walnut cabinetry, upholstered wall and ceiling panels, soft-close hardware and waterproof wood-look flooring give the interior a warm, finished feel..
There is also a built-in indoor shower, hot water on demand, 40-gallon fresh-water tank, 7-gallon removable grey-water tank and portable toilet.
The propane system is professionally installed with a dedicated Trident LPG locker in the rear garage and propane fume detector.
Off-Grid Power
The integrated electrical system includes:

The battery system can be monitored via Bluetooth from your phone.
We’ve personally spent several days at a time completely off-grid and have never had an issue meeting our power needs with the existing system.

In 2024, Colorado Adventure Vans upgraded the original Rossmönster build, including:
- Foldaway two-passenger seat with 3-point belts and child-restraint hooks
- Extended-depth Flarespace flares for comfortable crosswise sleeping
- Half-slider windows on both sides of the bed
- Bed repositioned to take advantage of the additional flare space
- Additional Arctic Tern window for rear passengers
- Shower relocation and new retractable shower door
- Associated flooring, upholstery and interior finish work

Despite its size, the van is easy and comfortable to drive, with a great suite of Mercedes driver-assistance features:

The 360° camera is especially useful for parking and maneuvering a 170″ van, and adaptive cruise control makes long highway drives much more relaxed.

Why We’re Selling
This isn’t a flip or a van we bought and barely used. We love this van. We’ve traveled in it as a family, camped off-grid, cooked meals, slept in the mountains, caught first tracks and made some amazing memories in it.
Both the original Rossmönster conversion and the later Colorado Adventure Vans modifications were professionally completed, and we have documentation for the work.
We’re selling because our family is moving overseas. Otherwise, we’d keep it forever.
