Custom Camper Van Conversion – Low Miles – Thoughtfully Designed

After watching hundreds of van build videos and researching countless layouts, I designed this van to feel comfortable, spacious, quiet, practical, and easy to drive. I intentionally chose the gray exterior instead of the common white cargo van because I wanted something that felt more like a expensive RV. I also chose the shorter wheelbase with the high roof so it would be easier to park and maneuver while still feeling open and roomy inside.

This van was designed differently than most camper vans. Instead of a fixed bed taking up most of the living area, I focused on flexibility and comfortable seating. The van has two swivel captain’s chairs, a fold-down sofa bed, and a storage bench seat, allowing seating for up to six people comfortably. The sofa easily converts into a bed, while still allowing the van to function as a true cargo van if desired by removing it.

Because I enjoy desert camping and off-grid travel, I installed two MaxxAir fans for excellent airflow — one set to pull air in and the other to exhaust air out, creating a constant breeze through the van. I also heavily invested in soundproofing and insulation. The result is a noticeably quieter and more temperature-controlled interior compared to most basic conversions.

The interior was designed to feel lightweight and open rather than crowded with heavy cabinets. One wall features low-pile automotive carpet with an abundance of lightweight expanding storage. I chose the carpet for insulation and also because I can easily add Velcro-mounted accessories, like pictures, clocks, smoke alarms, and decor. The opposite wall has assorted long narrow wood cabinets for storage while maintaining an open feel throughout the cabin.

Under the sofa are two large pullout storage drawers fully stocked with useful camping and travel supplies including tools, flashlights, plugs, solar lighting, and accessories — all included with the van.

The flooring includes multiple layers consisting of soundproofing, insulation, wood subflooring, and durable linoleum. The van also includes a chest-style refrigerator, which retains cold air much better than traditional upright RV fridges. A microwave, portable toilet, camp stove, TV, Starlink system, Berkey water filter, blackout insulated window coverings, magnetic screen door, and additional comfort features make the van feel much more like a tiny home than a cargo van.

Most of the miles are easy freeway miles from trips between Southern California, Redding, and Sun City, Arizona. The van currently has only approximately 10,000 miles and still retains partial factory warranty coverage.

This van was built to be practical, comfortable, quiet, flexible, and enjoyable for both travel and camping. It has been lightly used and very well cared for.
