2002 Ford 4X4 Conversion Van with Sportsmobile Pop Top
This is a custom build, 4 season, 2002 Ford E-250 camper van with a Quigley 4X4 factory conversion. Currently at 174k miles, we are only the second owners. We bought it as a cargo van in 2004 with 26k miles. We had Van Specialties in Portland, OR cut the windows, install all the flooring and wall panels, install a second battery and charging system, and install a propane tank and propane furnace. Then we took it to Sportsmobile in Fresno, CA where they installed the manual pop top. To finish the conversion, we built out the interior and added the solar panel and fixtures discussed below. We have all receipts and work records. Other than a few front ball joint replacements and the usual oil and batterier replacement, it has been extremely reliable mechanically.
This is a “Go-Anywhere” adventure rig – great for long weekends or back country travel yet small enough to drive into town. We are reluctantly selling it but have just sized up to a 4X4 Tiger (which is another amazing rig)

Sleeps 4 – Comfortable bed folds up into couch for daytime use. Pop top sleeps 2 additional.

Single solar panel (roughly 2’x4’) on the roof that is connect to a Zamp charge controller. Standard size lead acid house battery mounted in a steel cage under the van.

6 gallon water tank with water pump that supplies the kitchen sink and rear mounted shower
For backcountry simplicity, the grey water drains directly out a pipe in the bottom of the van, (no holding tank/water heater) Please use earth-friendly, biodegradable soap.

Miscellaneous Notes:
The Sportsmobile pop top has springs that have weakened over time making it harder to pop the top. A professional repair shop can tighten them again. Sportsmobile has also told us that if we brought it to their shop they would replace the springs.
The spare tire mounted underneath is the original that came with the van. It is smaller than the tires that are on the van currently so you might want to replace with a like size. This would likely require mounting the spare on the back of the van.
