Today we are listing a van that was meticulously converted throughout the past year. As former full-time vanlifers, we used our experience to build a second van, with the goal of refining our design and creating a more user-friendly space. This van was intended to be our extended weekender and vacation vehicle, but since starting the build in early 2022 we have had a great opportunity to buy our first home and she must go.
This build includes some of the details and qualities that we found vital with our extended travels in our previous build, while also making the most out of the midsized height and wheelbase. It is ready to hit the road today, eager to tackle anything from a day trip, a weekend in the mountains or fully off-grid living.
The layout features creative storage space, including a substantial pull-out pantry, an oversized drawer for large pots and pans, a huge compartment under the bench seat, and a massive dual-zone fridge/freezer, something we found crucial for longer trips. We aimed to keep the floorplan open, spacious and allow for two people to comfortably coexist, with plenty of countertop space and seating for two. The passenger seat swivels to face the bench so that two people can conveniently eat with the Lagun tabletop, which can also swivel to take the party outside!
Another key attribute of our first van was having a fixed bed. Everyone has different opinions on this topic, but we firmly believe fixed beds are the only way to go. They allow for dedicated storage within the garage space, easy access to protected utility boxes, plus you don’t have to make your bed twice a day. With the fixed platform bed we added bump-outs to maximize the lateral space so that a 6’1” occupant can sleep comfortably on the full-sized, brand-new memory foam mattress. Underneath the platform we have the water and electrical on either side with a large center space to be utilized in various configurations.
The exterior includes a custom U-track roof rack for the solar panels that is highly customizable to fit your needs. Throw a deck up there, additional storage cases, bikes, etc. We also added Go Rhino steps all around the vehicle along with a removable hitch step for ease of access. One of our favorite and essential aftermarket goodies is the addition of the Geolander A/T tires wrapped around lightweight cast aluminum Moto Metal wheels. This combination will grant you access to so many more camping spots by tackling trails otherwise impassible, while not sacrificing road noise or fuel economy.
