The Van:`
Drivetrain: Highly efficient (21 MPG) 3.0L Turbo Eco-diesel, front wheel drive with “automated manual” 6 speed transmission. Full factory spare tire under coach. Rear Sumo springs for improved handling. 4 Michelin Agilis Cross Climate tires installed at 30,280 miles (much better than factory tires). New starter battery fall 2023. Heated seats, cruise control, hitch receiver (never used), high-end Kenwood Excelon DMX958XR head unit with apple CarPlay ,Android audio, Sirius XM ready and Hertz speakers in rear. The Van Currently has 47,000 miles. It is in route to Bozeman MT, estimated 50,000 miles.
Van Condition: Van has been well maintained with no major issues. Miles are mostly highway miles. There is some cosmetic hail damage above the windshield and there is a crack low on the windshield. We can replace windshield before sale or discount accordingly. There is a small blemish on driver side rear corner where we recently got bumped while in storage. The van has been stored predominantly outside with a Tyvek cover and tire covers (included) when not in use. It will be garaged this summer in Belgrade MT (near Bozeman Airport). The owners live in Alaska but the van “lives” in lower 48 and has never been driven to Alaska.
Build – Interior
Layout: The layout is designed to provide ample storage and a light open feel. Fore-Aft Sleeping provides comfortable sleeping without crawling over your partner when you need to get up. The galley on the passenger side allows food prep with a view. Dual swivel seats, a removable table and bench seat provide great eating, working and hang-out space. A raised platform for seating when swiveled avoids the Promaster pitfall with swivel seats (dangling feet due to raised driver platform). We use the massive under bed storage to fit two mountain bikes and two gravel bikes in addition to two action packers and our Weber grill. Opening windows all around with backout window coverings for privacy and heat retention on cold nights. There is a custom bug screen for the slider as well as a midway stop to facilitate partial opening.
The Bed is 76 inches long on driver’s side and 68 inches on passenger side. This accommodates our respective statures while facilitate access to the Thetford. Simple modification could lengthen the passenger side bed. The bed is 60 inches wide with about 4 inches of personal storage room on both sides. The entire bed is removable for cargo hauling with the Van Specialties three panel system.
Electric: 440AH AGM batteries (4x6V GC2 under coach),300 watt solar with blue sky MPPT solar controller, shunt based blue sky iPN remote monitor for accurate battery monitoring, 2000 watt Xantex pure sine wave inverter, 45 amp intellipower converter with 15 amp shore power with an automatic transfer switch. 220 amp engine alternator charges house batteries when driving and isolates house batteries via solenoid when parked. Several USB, 120v outlets and 12 volt power outlets. A Wilson Electronics We-Boost amplifies weak cell connections for improved coverage in remote areas.
Appliances: Dometic CRX110 3.8 cubic foot (110 Liter) compressor fridge with small freezer, 700 watt microwave, multiple LED lighting circuits, and reading lights, porch light. USB ports for device charging, 2 burner dometic propane cooktop, exterior propane ports, sink and faucet, generous counter work space with interior and outside fold down counter top extensions.
Climate control: Two fantastic fans, one with remote, with bedside slider windows to provide excellent ventilation. The rear vent is pre-wired and reinforced to accommodate AC in place of rear fan. Rixen Espar diesel D5 hydronic system provides heat and on demand hot water, fueled from main diesel tank. This is a major upgrade from the more common airtronic heaters. This also heats with AC electric when on shore power. Fully insulated including ridged foam under floor.
Plumbing: 20 gal. under-bed water tank with Sureflow electric pump and city fresh water connect and exterior fill port. Outdoor shower with a removable curtain. An additional 7 gallons of water capacity is available for boondocking in the roof mounted RoadShower. The grey water from the gally sink is managed by a simple portable collection jug outside. The Thetford C200 cassette toilet has an exterior door for convenient emptying the recently replaced cassette. The toilet is hidden under countertop yet accessible if needed when sleeping. The 2.5 gal. propane tank in sealed Seward Marine locker with safety solenoid switch and outside BBQ port provides a safe installation for indoor and outdoor cooking. The tank valve is only open when in use. This small tank lasts over three weeks with regular use.
Storage: Overhead cabinets all around, pull out food pantry, 7 drawers with additional storage under bench seat. Small hanging locker and the previously mentioned massive garage.
This van has accommodated many trips of up to 8 weeks in length and boondocking off grid for 3-4 days.
