Custom built in 1996 to our specifications in Spokane Washington by Goldenwest. Van chassis was ordered by them and they did the interior to our specs. For about 2 years) we pulled a fully equipped 24 foot trailer, using the trailer for a base and the van for side camping trips. We did not install a high-top since a high-top wouldn’t fit in our Idaho garage, where we lived at the time. Idaho has winter! We found that we preferred travel in just the van – easier to drive, park and set-up.
I am told that a high-top can be added if desired. By various shops which can be found on the internet, or by a do-it-yourselfer with the necessary skills (for considerably less money). The cheapest way would be to salvage one from a car graveyard. I don’t vouch for this – check it out if you are interested – but it seems to be common. Apparently you can do various kinds – hard top, tent, ones that raise, etc.. I am barely 5 foot tall so didn’t really need.
It has a microwave, refrigerator, TV hookup for cable and lots of storage. It also has a wall-to-wall high grade custom mattress – almost a king size. Comfort was important to us! An auxiliary battery recharges when driving. There is a portable toilet disguised as an upholstered stool. Two foldable tables live behind the driver’s seat. We find that almost all campgrounds have facilities and most have showers. Holding tanks just take up too much space. We also include a camping toilet (which uses disposable bags) which we sometimes carry if dry camping.
For night – A fabric drape snaps around the inside front cab (see picture). There are 2 side windows which open partially and are screened and two rear fixed windows. All these windows have double shades – one opaque, one translucent. I secure the screens with velcro fasteners (I have extras) when driving as the slides are a little loose but they can be reworked or replaced if you desire. There are 7 lights, some run off aux battery some off car battery.
Fridge – has a small freezer compartment. Freezes well on exterior power. Running on battery when driving it cools but will not reliably keep things frozen. If I’m driving a long way I just stick in some ice.
Plugs – There are multiple plugs. I can include a portable heater, portable swamp cooler, fan. These work off exterior power. Can hook up to 20,30,50 amp. Converters included. Some of the interior lights work off auxiliary battery when no shore power.
Towing – As mentioned has pulled 24 foot trailer. Wiring in place for trailer lights – needs to be hooked up. Hitch should work for whatever – boat, bicycle rack , etc.
Disability rack – Not included, but have an aluminum rack for a disability scooter which is available for $300.
Reason for selling. I am 89 and widowed for several years. Time to downsize. I just returned from a 5000 mile farewell solo van trip to Colorado, the Great Lakes, and Niagara Falls. I had the van serviced and checked out by a local shop before I left to be sure everything was okay. They gave me a thumbs up for the trip. No problems!
Condition. The roof needs painting (AZ sun). I have not done this because I think a buyer may want to add a high-top. The skylight needs a new rubber seal. It is not leaking but it may soon. The driver seat has a mendable tear in the leather. I just had it serviced and an oil leak fixed which is guaranteed (but only to me) for 3 years. So it should be "good to go" on an exciting adventure for a new owner.
Inspection. If you want to have it inspected it is AT YOUR EXPENSE. You make arrangements within 10 miles of my location and I can probably arrange to deliver it there. I am not a mechanic nor do I know a lot about engines – my deceased partner took care of that.
Payment – cash only. If ready to buy please come on a weekday when banks are open as we will do closing at bank. If you don’t want to carry cash bring a Wells Fargo cashier’s check made out to yourself and you can cash it there.
Test drive – Can be arranged. I’ll have to find a willing neighbor to go with us.
If you are from far away I can e-mail you more pictures than I can post here. And answer any questions to the best of my ability.
