Our build, professionally installed by Brendan McKenny of Gone Mobile Vans, is based on simplicity. We wanted complete functionality without all the bells and whistles (and potential maintenance headaches) found on more “Instagram-worthy” rigs. Consequently, we ordered:

• the short, medium-roof Transit van version, for easy maneuvering and parking (especially in the state and national parks)  
• stovetop-less design (we carry a small induction burner)
• van-temp water only (routed internally, so no concerns about freezing); water is heated on the induction burner, as needed 
• a shower-pan/toilet enclosure, in which we can shower using a Geyser Systems portable shower with heater, and a Luggable Loo toilet (no need to go to an RV dump); when not in use, the hinged enclosure cover doubles as a countertop
• bed extensions so that we can sleep north/south, while still maximizing space efficiently. 
• three solar panels of 100W each, tied to a Goal Zero 3000X with built-in inverter, which is also powered by the alternator when driving. 
• A Dometic CFX3-75 dual zone cooler/freezer that can run for an almost unlimited time using the solar panels
