2020 Mercedes Sprinter 4×4 “Malik” ‘ Heritage Wood Build Out ‘ Stealth Wanderer ‘

“Malik” is a low roof (< 9ft), short wheelbase Mercedes Benz van that was built for easy movement in urban environments, stealth and aesthetics. The build out was completed by Sky and Ceiling of Philadelphia (http://phlsky.net) with wood that was sourced from the Pennsylvania area. The installation is sound-proofed and insulated with Havelock wool insulation, heated with a 7000 BTU Planar 2D Air Heater that is connected to the diesel fuel supply, and vented with a rear fan that also doubles as a skylight. There is a roof rack with 3 solar panels that connects to 2 200Ah AGM batteries. There is a rear-access water tank that is pumped through a faucet into a sink that drains into a gray water tank or direct to the ground. The lighting system can be dimmed and color adjusted. A portable Dometic fridge is also included as part of the kitchen setup, along with an electrical stove. IKEA hook-and-board storage is also installed for storage purposes, and there is under-counter storage available.

“Malik” was a wonderful way to get around the country and also do pleasant trips in and out of cities. The low roof and shorter wheelbase makes for a much lower profile and better driveability. The insulation and heat makes for cozy sleepovers wherever you find yourself stopping for the night, and Malik’s overall size makes it so much easier to find parking. I am sad to let Malik go as life calls my wife and I to another country, but I would love to deliver him to a caring and adventurous owner!
