I purchased this van a few years ago and it was by far one of the best choices I ever made. I built it out with the intention of lasting a lifetime. I got married and while we love the van, we recently had a kid and would like to build out another van that fits our family better as it grows. I’m sad to see it go. Below are some of the highlights of the vehicle and below that, the highlights of the build itself.
Vehicle Highlights:
3500 Extended. This high roof model is hard to come by and provides you with more overall space than almost all van types on the market currently. The extra couple feet on the back end make a big difference when it comes to storage and sleeping arrangements.
Premium Tires. I replaced the stock tires with Open Range Tires. LT245/75R16. This is a size up from stock and the all-terrain made a big difference when going off road. Fuel economy was not noticeably changed by the addition.
Hitch and towing package addition. I only ever towed a trailer a handful of times but every time I did it handled it great.
Sound system was upgraded last year to a nice set of JBL’s.
Build Highlights:
Blue Aims 1500-Watt inverter. This high-end inverter can also charge the house batteries and car battery in the van when plugged in via shore power. While plugged in it will also bypass using battery power and run everything directly from shore power.
Isolator. Power from the van alternator is attached the house batteries and charges them while running. If voltage of house batteries is below car batteries isolator will automatically disconnect. If van batteries die, switch can be forced to connect to start van with house batteries.
270 Amp-hours via AGM batteries.
400 Watts of solar. Renogy Bluetooth connect. See comprehensive status of batteries and solar from the app.
Inline fuses and DC breakers to protect whole system.
47Liter Dometic fridge/freezer.
900-Watt microwave.
5-gallon propane tank for propane stove top.
Running water for sink via pump and 5-gallon water container and 5-gallon grey water container.
Wall mounted TV.
3 inches of poly iso foam board insulation on the walls, 1 in on the floor and 1 ½ inches on top. Rock wool was also used for sound proofing and to provided easy access to wiring if needed.
New Diesel heater with line ran to the back to a 3-gallon diesel tank. This is temperature controlled and very efficient. With the temperature outside at about 25 degrees the diesel would last about 4-5 nights depending how warm you like it.
Comes with swamp cooler for summer months if you would like it.
Standard max air fan on the roof
The upper cabinets and lower drawers are made from veneered birch. The hard would is very resilient to wear and tear.
LVP flooring
Other notes:
Wires are run for both a light bar on a roof rack as well as lights for the outside surrounding the van.
Romex is also run to the front roof side of the van for a A/C if anyone ever wanted to install a unit.
Final Items
Transmission was recently replaced with new one about 2 years ago. A sensor on the old transmission went bad and wore the clutch pads down without giving warning or check engine light. Sensors and transmission have been replaced. Warranty on the transmission is transferable to the new owner.
Just replaced the windshield about a month ago.
Please reach out and I am happy to answer any of your questions or elaborate in more detail about the build.
