Approximately 56.6k miles; nearly all for road trips. Rarely used around town.
Cargo Van purchased in February 2018 from Mercedes Benz of San Diego
3.0-liter diesel, upgraded ‘comfort’ factory seats.
All maintenance done by previous original owner with receipts: oil and filter (air, cabin, fuel) changes.
New brakes at 52K miles. Recent oil change at 52k miles. Michelin tires were new from Discount Tire at around 30k miles; 50k plus rated tires. New AGM starter battery in 2023(Costco).
A note about fuel efficiency: (original owner and I concur on the mileage)
I routinely get 19+ MPG on the highway (fully loaded) if speeds kept at or below 65MPH; best interval mileage was a recent trip (May 2024) 22.5 MPG, Phx to Yuma. Worst mileage ever was in extreme headwinds 17MPG. This is calculated the old school way as the van does not track mileage. I intentionally kept build weight in check and limited roof top accessories and aggressive tires that impact mileage.
Build weight at cat scale loaded is 7,000lbs; empty probably closer to 6600 lbs.
Campervan build done 2018-2019 by original owner
Build details:
All work was done by original owner, updates for 2024 by current owner.
“Passthough” design maximizes space
2024 – lagun bamboo table and mount added
All electric van; solar/electrical system designed by Northern AZ wind and sun:
305 watt solar panel, Morningstar ProStar MPPT charge controller, Xantrax Freedom X 2000W pure sine wave inverter/charger, two 12v 100AH Battleborn LiPO4 batteries (replaced under warranty in 2023), Samlex battery charger isolator (charges from alternator when driving), heavy cabling, fuses and disconnects throughout. WFCO dist center. I have all receipts and schematics. (included in paperwork)
Other build components:
• Maxx Air Fan (replaced in 2024 with 12v AC unit with 1AWG wiring, Maxx fan is still available)
• Thinsulate insulation used throughout
• LED lights in ceiling (LED light added under driver’s side cabinet in 2024)
• Novacool 3.1 cubic foot AC/DC fridge
• Isotemp 120V water heater (marine grade). It is feasible to connect van engine coolant lines to the water heater, but we have never done so.
• Espacher Airtronic diesel heater
• 18 gallon fresh water tank (inside)
• Approx 18-gallon grey water tank with dump valve and hose
• Shower (configured for gear storage with endless possibilities) with custom TIG welded stainless steel shower pan, and an over-the- spare tire marine shower pump tied into grey water tank. Outside redwood platform and extension hose included for outside showers and rinse off when at the beach.
• Rear windows and passenger side window are OEM style glue on windows. Drivers side louvered window and rear small slider is from CR Laurence and are “clamp on” style.
• All plumbing is PEX and routed inside the van (for freeze concerns).
• Standalone cassette toilet, maybe used 3 times in 5 years. (new valve replaced in 2024)
• Passenger seat swivel mount
• All cabinets are steel framed, powder coated, and skinned with Baltic(int) and bamboo plywood. Marine style latches throughout. Anchored to van using plus nuts.
• Bed is a full size (hybrid memory foam mattress) and folds up into couch during the day. Heavy duty slides rated at 750lbs for the three. Bought in pairs so I have an extra that is included. These have been bulletproofed. This was a design ‘borrowed’ from the Bearfoot Theory’s Kristens first van build. Look it up on YouTube. It takes less than 3 minutes for two people to set up bed.
(2024 modified to a single bed walkaround, the original configuration can be restored if preferred)
• Handmade window screens with thermal layer for all windows (sans windshield) attachable with magnets and/or Velcro attachments.
• Class V hitch used primarily for bike rack
• Brake controller (used briefly when I borrowed a friend’s trailer, original owner)
• TRUE induction two burner cooktop
• 2024 portable microwave oven included. Can be used with inverter or with shore power
• Aftermarket 2024 Radio upgraded to Kenwood Excelon DNR1007XR 10” screen, with dash cam, backup cam, Garmin GPS with 3 yrs of map updates, XM Sirius with one year subscription
• “stealth” style shore power connector box at driver’s side rear.
• Upgraded aftermarket horn
• Fire extinguisher, smoke and CO detector.
• Basic step, poly mat, 25’ freshwater fill hose, 30A shore cord and 25’ extension cord, dump hose included.
• Miscellaneous extra build materials are included if you want so you can customize to your tastes. Bamboo plywood, cables, etc.
• Board to convert back to full size bed. (can be done later or before purchase upon request)
