The Orca Spaceship is getting a brand new paint job and is ready for the next adventure! I purchased the van as a stock 144 crew model from the original dealership as a trade-in in 2015. I used the van as a weekend getaway vehicle for a couple of years while I designed the full build and made adjustments to the design. I’ve made upgrades over the years and moved into the van full time in 2020 and lived in it for 3 years. It has truly been a life changing vehicle and am sad to let it go, but happy for someone else to experience the joy it can bring.
I am a finish carpenter by trade and worked in southern California building custom vans while I was living in mine. It’s based off of the VW westfalia camper layout but modified for the sprinter platform. The full size bed folds down and the bench seat below also folds into a bed. The rear bench seat includes lap seat belts that are bolted to the frame of the van. The kitchen has a sink with hot water, a fridge, and two burner propane stove. Under the bed in the back is a large garage space for gear and utility storage. It has a custom roof rack with a 300W solar panel. 200ah Battleborn Lithium Ion batteries with Victron DC/DC charger. A custom rear rack that can carry 3 bikes and an external storage box. It has both front and rear hitch mounts with a receiver. It has a Webasto diesel heater and a 22 gallon fresh water tank. There are plenty more upgrades but the bottom line is it’s a very comfortable live aboard for all climates and has most all amenities I could imagine needed.
It’s been parked and used very sparingly the last couple of years as my wife (who I met while traveling in the van) and I moved to Hawaii. All maintenance has been done by certified Mercedes shops with all receipts in hand. It has new brakes and tires and just got an oil change this fall. 240k miles is just getting warmed up for these engines. The sprinter shop that does the maintenance has same model year vans running 500k + miles. It is currently having all scratches and dents repaired and repainted white and black with a full warranty. It comes outfitted with insulated blackout shades, cookware, bedding, tow straps, max traxx, saw, hatchet & additional camping gear. It will be available the first week of April. We will be driving it from San Diego to San Francisco and are happy to meet the new owner, drop off, and share the van tutorial en route. Feel free to reach out with any questions I love talking story about this van!
