Full off-grid climate control and mobile office in an adventure van with 1kW of solar silently running a 9,000 BTU mini split. This is the only E-Series van build in the world with this setup that I am aware of, built on the legendary 7.3 Powerstroke which is widely regarded as one of the most reliable diesel engines ever built.
This 2002 E350 7.3l Turbo Diesel extended van has barely been broken in at the 105k mile mark, and features a behemoth 900 AH house battery system with premium Victron components, charged by 1000 watts of solar on the roof. This extreme battery and charging capacity fuels a 9000 BTU mini split that grants this van an unprecedented level of energy efficient climate control. The external unit is custom mounted with flexible HVAC line to a Ujoint swingarm on the rear bumper so that the rear doors can still be accessed.
The WeldTeC 5” suspension upgrade, locker, regearing, wheels, tires, onboard air compressor, mini split, and barwork is only 1 year/8k miles old. The ARB rear air locker and 5″ lift provide the traction and ground clearance for serious backcountry use without the complexity, weight penalty, or transfer case maintenance of a full 4×4 conversion. I’ve been very impressed with the Weldtec suspension, which provides an exceptionally smooth and straight ride even at 75+mph for such a beast of a vehicle.
Modern touches include rear backup and sideview cameras, an upgraded head unit, and a killer sound system with a 12” subwoofer under the rear bed/seat. There is also an integrated wireless phone charger mounted directly into the dash, and a Lagun table for a laptop with a widescreen monitor mounted on a swingarm in the rear.
I am the second owner of this van. I built it and used it as a daily driver for the last 6 years. Everything works perfectly and has been cared for meticulously. This is a dream rig but I have marriage and babies on the horizon and need a more practical child hauler since I’m not camping as often. The van has a presale inspection report from 8/5/26 which passed with flying colors.
Currently located in Olympia, WA.
