This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is one of a kind. We’d never be parting with it if we hadn’t outgrown it as a family. For nearly five years we used this for every adventure in the Mountain West. It was a custom-build & has incredibly low mileage (36,000). It’s a turbo diesel 4×4 on the 144 wheel base.
The camper queen bed worked perfectly for two or three. We have plenty of solar on the roof and never once ran out of power while camping. We were able to run the LED lights, water pump, inverter, and charge phones and laptops while traveling with no issues. The gas stovetop was excellent for when we decided to cook meals indoors (propane tank stored under sink). The bottom side of the windows are all extension pop-out vents which work wonderfully when paired with the fully automatic ceiling fan. Sleeping with the windows cracked open and fan pulling the fresh air through is amazing. It was equally beneficial while using the stovetop.
Every window in both the cabin and front have custom-made fully magnetic and insulated blackout window covers. It’s great to enjoy as many windows as this van offers while desired & taking in scenery, but also having the option for full blackout when going to sleep.
The high altitude diesel heater heated the interior so well that you’d never know you were camping in below freezing temperatures. The thermostat is located in the seating/bed area for quick adjustments throughout the day & night. There are also string lights across the underside of the cabinets which turn on/off via a remote in the seating area as well.
The interior is loaded with storage both overhead and below – we never ran out of space & everything was nicely stowed and tucked away while traveling. The kitchen also includes a great size refrigerator with freezer. It’s very efficient & also runs while dry camping via solar/battery power. The stainless steel sink is larger than most airstream sinks – plenty of space to wash dishes. The faucet is also a full size residential stainless faucet with full extension & spray option. This is powered by the water pump under the sink & water supply via (2) 5gal water tanks for fresh & grey water.
The cabin has outlets throughout for both 110v plugs (as long as under 1000 watts) and USB ports – all running off the inverter. The ceiling fan has an automatic rain sensor and will close on its own when it senses rain drops, as well as multiple speed options. Both the ceiling and the under cabinets are wired with recessed 12v LED lights in a soft white (3000k). The seating area with table converts to the camper queen bed in under a minute, while all of your sheets, pillows, comforter, and general supplies can be stowed away under the bench seating until it’s needed. There is also a pull-down white screen under the bed cabinets if you’d like to use a projector and watch movies.
The standalone dresser works great for clothes & supplies and has been finished with white shiplap style boards. We installed a magnetic screen at the opening of the sliding door which works amazingly well to let fresh air in & keep the bugs out in the summer months. The flooring is a beautiful toned wood laminate while the ceiling is tongue & groove stained pine. The passenger seat has a full 360 degree swivel installed to face the rear of the cabin.
The Fiamma awning is great for sunny & low wind days – it’s manually opened & closed with the extension tool and takes under a minute to fully extend. It also has the drop down bars to secure to the ground, but can be used with or without them.
The “garage” area of the van has two doors beneath the seating area which are accessed from the rear of the van. The left side has a large pull out drawer, while the right side has an open space & also access to the under seat storage of the interior. This is where we’d store our camp chairs, firewood, and other camping supplies.
The roof and side ladder are both from Aluminess – excellent quality – its a full roof rack which hosts the (3) large solar panels. The van has an upgraded on-board GPS computer (in the event you’re without cell service) it will connect to multiple satellites to guide your way. It’s also fully handsfree for your calls and music streaming.
The 4×4 works amazingly well – especially when paired with the oversized BFG KO2 tires (265/75 R16). We’ve used this van in both slippery ice and snow as well as deep snow camping off-grid and we never had any issues. Under the rear of the van we also stored a full size matching tire and wheel. All these tires have less than 10k miles on them – barely used & excellent condition.
The van also has factory LED light strips which stay on automatically under the headlights & they look great. The headlights are the high-end HID of the other Mercedes you see on the road – this is a rarity among many sprinters which are halogen bulbs and no LED strips – this was an upgraded factory package.
As we said in the beginning, we truly love this vehicle and would never think to part with it if we didn’t need more space. This van is a must-see – we haven’t personally come across any quite like this one.
