This DIY 4X4 tiny home has something for everyone. The 2020 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 170” 4X4 has all the capabilities that you need to claw up mountainsides to reach isolated campsites or out a sandy beach road to chase the sunset. Wherever you arrive in this van, you will have all the comforts and capabilities that you need to make that view extra special.
With barely 50k miles, you are only getting started. This van is dealer maintained and provided a brilliant opportunity for the owners to travel nearly fulltime for more than two years. However, their work situation no longer allows that freedom, and they must pass this van along to someone else who just wants to get away from it all, whether for the weekend or full time. This van does it all.
The upgraded off-road suspension kit and tires give you added clearance and capabilities in desert rocks or down muddy forest roads. The adjustable suspension smooths out the washboards without scrambling your eggs. On the roof, which is accessed by the rear ladder, you will find a 380-watt solar panel that charges your 400 AH of lithium batteries even if the panel is partially shaded. In addition to the 12-volt charger that tops off your batteries while on the road, you can plug into shore power when mooch camping or in a campsite.
The entire electrical system was sourced from Light Harvest Solar and was built specifically for this van by their licensed electricians, but the kit was self-installed during the build. Although more expensive than piecing together miss-matched parts from Amazon like what is seen in many DIY builds, this professionally built system left little to chance and has provided issue-free and safe power since day one.
The power in this van allows you multiple 12-volt DC USB connections and several 110-volt AC plugs that can power anything up to 3000 watts, including an air fryer, Instant Pot, or electric kettle! Just about anything that you can cook at home can now be cooked on the road, all with the best views possible. The refrigerator keeps your food the proper temperature, and your ice cream frozen.
The convertible living area provides ample space to work during the day, or for four to eat dinner or enjoy evening cards games. When the games are done, the table becomes part of an almost-king sized bed made from a real mattress. There is plenty of comfort for two adults and a dog or kid!
The interior is constructed almost entirely of Baltic birch plywood, and it remains as strong and sturdy as the day it was built. The owners wanted a bright and inviting interior that could withstand the demands of outdoor exploration, and the build has provided several years of almost-full time travel across North America.
The outside world is muffled by imported sheep wool insulation, which gives you a dry interior in all conditions. It helps you to stay cooler during those warmer days and protects your romantic interior on those cooler nights – all without breathing harmful chemical odors or fiberglass! With two reversible 12-volt fans, you can find the perfect balance, and the diesel heater guarantees comfort during the coldest of nights.
With hot and hold water throughout the van, you will enjoy camping without looking or feeling like you live in the great outdoors thanks your indoor shower. Or use the outdoor shower to wash the dog with warm water or spray off the paddle board after a long day on the water. With 30 gallons of freshwater storage, you can now shower after that hike!
