This one of a kind 2020 Ford Transit AWD van is outfitted with a professional Barn Swallow Tiny Homes LLC 2022 conversion that is as stunning as it is functional. Whether you decide to live out of this van or use it for your overland excursions, we know that you will appreciate the craftsmanship, function, and beauty of this rig.
Interior design features include a mix of nautical, modern industrial, and even some rustic elements that leave anyone standing inside of it feeling right at home. We believe that we struck a wonderful balance between warm wood tones and subtle cool tones. We love to involve elements of contrast in our designs. Notice how well the sugar maple and gray hexagon tile flooring compliment each other? Or how well the black walnut cabinet faces and counters show off their unique grain on the backdrop of painted gray cabinets? Oh and then there’s the western red cedar ceiling and all of their variation defined by crisp black lines in between. The black handles, hardware and trim really help make things sleek but the bright white lights and switch panels keep the van feeling open and spacious.
This van is made for someone who loves natural sun light. The sliding door and the rear cargo door have factory Ford fixed windows. We installed an aftermarket operable RV window on the driver side of the van for added ventilation.
The bed is a (slightly smaller than) full mattress made of memory foam and has been custom cut to snuggly fit where it belongs. Supporting this mattress is a rugged yet lightweight aluminum frame that maximizes the amount of utility and cargo space beneath the bed.
Speaking of utilities, this van has 40 gallons of clean water capacity underneath and has adhesive tank heaters that are internally thermostat controlled to help combat freezing temperatures. Gray water capacity is 20 gallons but is not heated. We suggest adding a small amount of RV antifreeze for freezing conditions. Both fresh and gray water tanks have their own drain valves should you need to drain the tanks for any reason. The fresh water port is located on the driver side and is protected by a key to deter tampering. The fresh water system has a 12v pump and accumulator tank. There are exterior hot and cold water spigots. The van is equipped with a 7 gallon Bosch mini tank water heater.
The shower is fitted with a sauna shower grate made of Spanish cedar and a custom matching soap shelf. This is a wet bath and so it features a brand new Air Head composting toilet and ducted exhaust. The shower fixture has a conventional diverter and a shower head with handheld wand.
This van has everything but the kitchen si……oh wait, it even has a massive Ruvati double tub stainless steel sink with an industrial faucet and an added black walnut sink insert for additional counter space.
One of my favorite parts of this build is the energy system! This build features a whopping 840 watts of solar mounted on a custom aluminum roof rack. It also features 200 ah lithium iron phosphate batteries wired in series to make a 24v bank at 200 ah (same power as 400ah at 12v), and all high quality Victron Energy equipment! Of the Victron energy components, we have a Victron Multiplus 3000 watt / 24vDC / 120vAC inverter, charger, and 70 amp shore power transfer switch is central to this system (50 amp Furrion shore power inlet). It is complimented by a Victron 100/50 charge controller, Victron 100 amp DC/DC alternator charger, Victron Lynx distribution system with smart shunt, a Cerbo GX module with touchscreen, and an Orion 70 amp 24v to 12v step down transformer. The Cerbo GX system enables remote and bluetooth monitoring of your off grid energy system!
Appliances include a mid size refrigerator freezer combo, a microwave/oven/air fryer combo, a two burner induction cooktop, two large maxxair fans, and one small maxxair fan for the bathroom.
Regarding the chassis, it is a single rear wheel, all wheel drive Ford Transit 350 (GVWR 9500lbs) with a Ford Ecoboost V6 engine with less than 900 miles on it and an automatic transmission. It is the largest van that Ford offered in 2020 with an extended length 148” wheelbase and a high roof ceiling.
The suspension has been beefed up thanks to a VanCompass two inch suspension lift all around and a rear aftermarket Air Lift Load Lifter 5000 Ultimate air bag suspension. This suspension is far from stock! The rims are Hunter Van Dually black aftermarket rims. The tires have been upgraded to Toyo Open Country A/T LT245/75R16 load range E tires and a full size spare mounted to the back door thanks to a quality Aluminess spare tire rack.
Also from VanCompass, we outfitted this van with their front winch bumper and engine skid plate combo. Affixed to this winch bumper is a 10,000lbs Warn winch with wireless remote control.
Lighting: A massive 54” Rough Country Cree LED curved light bar that is perfect for illuminating the unbeaten path.
Auxiliary LED lighting on the passenger, driver and rear of the vehicle. The rear LED fixtures can be turned on with a 3 way switch on both the driver seat and from the bed. In addition to the factory backup camera, these lights aid in backing into late night camping sites.
Interior lighting includes 3 zones that are each on a dimmer for creating intimate lighting. The undercabinet space and the cabinet toe kicks have LED light strips that are enclosed in sleek smoked lens aluminum raceways. There is a colored LED light strip around the upper cabinetry of the build. It has several modes including solid color but it also changes color with music for a groovy psychedelic effect. There is an LED cargo light in the cargo area. And lastly, there is a light that is wired into the entry step that illuminates when the side sliding door opens.
All four sides of the van have been equipped with a color security camera system with a live monitor positioned next to the bed. It is recorded for about 10 days and the memory continually rewrites itself. This system is 4G LTE streamed to your smart phone.
All of our builds feature a complimentary fire extinguisher, and combination carbon monoxide/smoke detector to help ensure your safety.
Disclaimers:
There are 3 cosmetic issues with this van. On the passenger side of the van near the roof, someone test driving the van clipped a basketball hoop and placed a small scratch and dent in the side of the van. It is visible to a keen eye but is rather subtle. There are minor dents and scratches on some of the woodwork as it is stain grade and wood tends to be imperfect. All of these factors have been considered in the asking price.
This van was designed in mind for vanlifers who chase the weather. If you desire auxiliary heat and/or air conditioning, the supporting infrastructure exists and can be discussed for an additional cost. We would recommend an undermount 24v air conditioner and a gasoline air heater as the top options.
