After building out a skoolie, living in it for 8 months and eventually selling it… I went looking to buy pre-built van conversion and save time. After looking at white particle board builds for 120k-150k, I went back to building this Promaster 2500 159 WB using solid materials such as 2x6’s, 2x3’s, construction screws, & galvanized steel support braces.
After 45 days on the road exploring Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and more - we decided to make a move to Central America, so - the Van is for sale!
This Ram Promaster 2500 159 WB is equipped with quite a lot.
- - - Starting with the outside - - -
- front brush guard (could be a life saver or damage reducer especially with deer or parking lot bumpers)
- Yakima swivel bike rack for multiple mountain bikes- includes locks
- step up running boards for both driver, passenger and sliding door
- front hood stone protector
- black aluminum roof rack
- black ladder to your cedar roof deck with folding headrest (room for another 200 W solar panel if needed)
- 200 Watt Goal Zero solar panels
- Yakima wind deflector
- manual exhaust maxxair fan
And - since they’re attached to the outside - traction boards for sand, snow and mud. There is also some attached LED rope lighting that can be plugged in when the door is open. The true Mpg when the van is full with water/ stuff etc. - was around 16 mpg.
- - - Moving inside - - -
Starting with the beginning…
Much of the van, including wheel wells, was covered with Kilmat for sound proofing.
As someone who renovates and flips houses, energy efficiency is important - it’s expensive, but it’s the best and I use it in every home including this van.
Green cocoon professionally sprayed spray foam insulation on the walls, ceilings and floor - and any areas that could not be sprayed like the sliding door - were insulated with rock wool adding additional sound proofing and hard-to-get-to corners/holes stuffed with fiberglass. The ceiling was then covered in plywood before adding the final 5/8 wood ceiling.
Because of this insulating factor - the van can get warm within only a few minutes of turning the engine on in 20 degree weather and hold the heat late into the night. Even our body heat and a candle was impressive to me in cold temperatures.
On top of that - curtains for the back, slider and cockpit - are all insulated thermal curtains.
The cockpit comes with a full coverage floor mat and comes with a 300 watt sine inverter to charge laptops, camera gear etc. while the van is running/driving
Both driver and passenger seats are equipped with swivels.
The kitchen:
- Cabinetry is professional made cabinetry by local kitchen design company (not Home Depot/ Lowes) it has soft close drawers with child proofing for those sharp turns, and in the main cabinet, space for pots/pans, the 15 lb. propane tank (tank +propane alarm included), trash and extra space for water, toiletries etc. (trash can, pots and pans included)
- The sink water is dispensed by a foot pump that can disperse up to 4 gallons a minute
-25 gallon water tank under bed, which has a hose valve for easy filling
-5 gallon grey tank, which has lever under the van for direct draining if they grey tank doesn’t need to be used. Also has a hose valve to empty if at a campground with hook ups.
The kitchen also includes:
- butcher block wood countertops
- sink with beach stone and copper faucet
- 2 burner propane stove
- wooden handmade spice rack with jars (included)
- sliding screened window
- antique reclaimed support beam (saved from a past 1800s renovation)
- dimmable LED, rustic pipe light fixture
- 2 mounted baskets
- silverware tray & bowls included
- LED dimmable light over kitchen runs off the van battery, and the dimmer switch is an unnoticeable piece of cedar.
There are 2 separate eating locations - A tray that can be used on the bed, or placed on the pull out silverware drawer. There is also a lagoon table with rustic wood table top to eat with the door open or swiveled inwards. There is also an extra lagoon bracket if you'd like to install it somewhere - possibly for the swivel seats.
The floor is the original flooring- thin plywood covered in a black plastic laminate. It’s heavy duty to avoid scratching from tools and is waterproof. If wanted, the floor can easily be transformed to a water-sealed floor if you wanted to add a portable indoor shower or curtain system.
(There is currently no hooked up shower) (also no furnace or hot water)
There is a maxx air fan that is powered by the van's battery. It is a manual exhaust fan above the kitchen area.
The couch has 4” foam cushions and faux leather fabric with zippers. The length of the couch can easily serve as a guest bed.
Under the couch:
- under end seat of the couch is a 5 gallon Dometic cassette toilet (brand new, never used) with additional room for some toiletries
- the middle of the couch has a support arm for easy loading or unloading of food into the Dometic 75L dual zone fridge
- both left and right sides of the couch have bins for storage (included), which was what we used for colder climate clothes
All upper storage cabinets have support arms for easy loading and unloading.
Cabinets above the kitchen have brass rods to make sure food doesn’t fall out if a cabinet is to open on bumpy roads.
The cabinets above the bed have magnets, but for those heavily bumpy roads, there is a way to attach a mini cord to hold the cabinets locked shut.
Along the wall :
- 20” tv for games, dvds, or connecting to your laptop etc. It is mounted with a swivel bracket
The bed:
- 6” memory foam mattress (length: 6 ft., width: 54 in., bed to ceiling height: 37.5 in., bed to overhead storage cabinet height: 27 in.)
- 2 sliding, screened motion windows
- mounting hooks with straps for surfboard or hanging lights above bed
There is lots of storage under the bed. Because the Yeti 3000x battery system saves so much space, there is lots of room for extra food, clothes, hiking, climbing, camping etc. equipment you might need. There is also straps on the roof of the bed for gloves/hats/outdoor cooking etc.
Ready for your new home on wheels?
Included: little USB bluetooth speaker, bowls, cooking ware, some candles, solar lights, bins in storage cabinet, magnet thermometer, 7 gallon portable water tank, large cooler (similar to a Yeti), tea pot, 5 gallon solar bag shower, outdoor pop-up tent for a shower or bathroom
Not included: pillows, blankets, Marshall speaker, seat covers, surfboard, books
Disclaimer: If you know ProMasters, you may know about the flex plate. This ProMaster has already had the flex plate replaced to the double thick plate & transmission replaced and upgraded. The van is still under warranty and after those improvements, should make this ProMaster a much better option than one with the stock flex plates known to fail. There is 1 scratch on the side of the van, 1 mirror that was hit (mirror was replaced- this ProMaster has extra large folding mirrors - plastic broken but passed inspection), 1 chip 2"x 2" on one of the step up running boards & currently needs a new passenger mirror (I am working to have replaced asap - though I can't guarantee ready due to backorders prior to a purchase)
This van has gone around the Country - through Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Kansas, and up the Appalachian trail states with zero issues. To me, this van drives smooth, turns well, just an overall easy comfortable ride.
(Please note: the van cannot be driven away until funds have cleared)
