My wife and I restore historic buildings and since 2015 we’ve been dreaming of managing a sprinter conversion ourselves. This van is the culmination of years of daydreaming, consulting, as well as a significant remodel of the van after our summer 2022 trip (so much learned). We focused on 3 primary areas to create our Ultimate Family Camper Van. Sleep quality/comfort, organization & aesthetic. This sprinter is a true sleep 4 with with plenty of room in the “loft” for 2 kids to sleep end to end. Many times on our trips the kids could watch a movie upstairs and we could watch one down stairs with total ease and no noise transfer. The Pop top is massive and even though Im 6’3″ I can sit upright and play cards etc up there.
We worked with 3 separate up-fitters as well as our in house carpenters to collaborate on the build out. No Wrong Turns Vans performed all of the electrical, solar, battery & diesel heater related. Colorado Camper Vans Installed the remote activated pop top, roof rack & led lights. We worked with Carl Stereo (a major sprinter and jeep upfitter) to safely install the bench seat, flooring, dash screen system, back up camera, hitch and exterior steps.
The van is wrapped in a light sage green. Due to the height of the van and from the 4 bikes we had on the rear rack there are several areas that the wrap has been scuffed or blemished and there are a few small dings. Pretty much everywhere we traveled including cities there were tree limbs that would rub the upper sides of the van. Im glad I wrapped it as the arctic white paint underneath should be as good as new.
We’ve driven the van in Rocky Mountain National park in a snowstorm with inches of snow on the roads with no problem and we were shocked at how easy it has been to park. We were concerned about that but It is easy to back it up in a standard spot with the rear of the van hanging over green space etc.
